Getting to the hospital
VGH is just off the Trans-Canada Highway at Helmcken Road, about 7 minutes from the suite by car. For parking, entrances and visiting hours, check Island Health’s page for the hospital before you go, as these can change.
Coming and going at odd hours
You let yourself in through your own garden entrance, so a late return from the hospital is no problem. The suite is yours alone, with a driveway spot for one car.
Longer stays
The kitchenette has a fridge, freezer, microwave, coffee maker, kettle and toaster, but no stove or oven, and there is no laundry for guests. Royal Oak’s grocery stores and shops are about 5 minutes away by car.
If your plans change
Hospital stays are hard to predict. Cancellation terms are set by Airbnb or VRBO and shown before you pay, so check them when you book. If you need more nights, message us through the platform you booked on.
Families with a child in hospital
Families travelling more than 45 km, or by ferry or plane, for a child’s care (ages 0 to 19) may be able to stay at Jeneece Place on the VGH grounds for $25 a night. It is run by the Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island, and a health care provider has to refer you, so ask your child’s care team.
