Lakes, hills and trails
Elk and Beaver Lake Regional Park is about 8 to 11 minutes away by car. Beaver Beach at the south end is shallow and sandy, good for a swim or a picnic, and a gravel trail runs along the lakes.
Mount Douglas, PKOLS in the SENĆOŦEN language, is about 14 minutes away, with views over the Saanich Peninsula from the top.
The Galloping Goose and Lochside regional trails are the area’s long cycling and walking routes; the Goose passes about 2.6 km from the suite.
Gardens and museums
The Butchart Gardens are about 20 minutes away by car, and Victoria Butterfly Gardens about 17, a good pick for kids or a rainy day.
Downtown Victoria and the Inner Harbour are about 15 to 17 minutes away, with the Royal BC Museum on the harbour.
Brunch
Brunch is a local favourite, and two of ours have a branch in Royal Oak, about 5 minutes away: The Village (4517 West Saanich Road), which serves brunch all day, and Floyd’s Diner (4496 West Saanich Road). The Ruby is another favourite, with its closest location about 11 minutes away. Check each one’s website for current hours.
Cideries and wineries
The Saanich Peninsula makes a good afternoon out. Junction Orchard & Cidery at Prospect Lake is about 11 minutes away and has a family-friendly tasting room. Church & State Wines in Brentwood Bay is about 18 minutes away, and Sea Cider Farm & Ciderhouse in Saanichton about 19. Opening days change with the seasons, so check before you go, and pick a driver.
Swimming and rainy days
Saanich Commonwealth Place, the district’s big pool and recreation centre, is about 6 minutes away by car. For groceries and everyday shopping, Royal Oak is about 5 minutes away.
Audio tours by your host
Diogo, one of your hosts, also makes Camena, an app of self-guided audio tours that play as you walk, cycle or drive. Its Inner Harbour walking tour is free. For a bike day there’s a Galloping Goose ride, and for a road trip the Victoria to Nanaimo drive on Highway 1.
Getting around
A car is the easiest way to get around from here. Victoria International Airport is about 24 minutes away and the Swartz Bay ferry terminal about 28. We also keep maps and brochures in the suite to help plan your days.
